Summer may be over, but Well•Pict is always staying busy – and we have a lot going on this month.
It’s PMA Fresh Time
As a year-round supplier of strawberries and raspberries, we at Well•Pict Berries are always hard at work delivering the goods to eager customers worldwide. But this month is especially exciting for us, because we’re headed back to sunny Anaheim, California for our favorite trade show, PMA Fresh Summit 2019!
Headquartered at the massive Anaheim Convention Center, PMA Fresh attracts brands, growers and suppliers from around the world, and we always look forward to meeting up with our friends and partners in the produce business. We’re bringing all the razzle dazzle our booth is known for, and of course we’ll be setting out our super-premium, ripe proprietary strawberries and a favorite recipe to try. Summer-Sized Profits All Winter Long
Every retailer knows that Summer is the top season for tempting shoppers to buy more fruit, but did you know that those big numbers don’t have to slow down in Fall and Winter? Remember, strawberries are a year-round crop, thanks to our Florida growing program, so the produce department can absolutely enjoy an endless summer – and a very profitable one at that.
And just in time for those special holidays, our raspberry crops have been expanded to ship year-round as well.
Available in multiple size options, our raspberries share the same premium flavor, color, and size characteristics that make our strawberries so popular – now not only during the “traditional” berry seasons, but 12 months a year.
Keep Berries “Top of Mind” for Best Sales
Right now is the perfect time to harness the power of berries for an extended retail boost that lasts through Fall and beyond. Berries are the retailer’s secret weapon that keeps cash registers ringing, all the way to the holidays. Ripe, aromatic strawberries practically sell themselves, and they whet the appetite for everything else in the produce aisles. This means keeping berries “top of mind” for shoppers, by giving them plenty of reasons why they want berries again this week, and the next.
Keep berry displays in the very front of your produce section. Not only do people typically see-first-buy first, the visual appeal of fresh, colorful berries puts shoppers in a happy friendly frame of mind. And they’re actually apt to buy additional fresh items when berries are prominently placed: Produce sales overall are known improve by 6% and more, thanks to this “berry boost effect.”
Thanksgiving, Christmas, Hannukah and New Year’s Stimulate Berry Sales
Beginning with the cooler harvest season, consumers are turning once again to the time-honored ritual of readying their homes and tables for the holidays. Home chefs are already thinking about all the ingredients they will need for making cozy home-cooked dishes, and they’re carrying long shopping lists into stores. Along with all the canned and boxed items, your customers are filling their carts with seasonal veggies and fruit items of every description – fruit for pies, fruit for toppings, fruit for drinks and cookies and everything else. And berries fit perfectly into this scenario.
How to spark that holiday mood? Build winter-themed displays to promote raspberries and strawberries during berry-centric holiday periods. It doesn’t have to be elaborate or expensive* – just a few colorful touches, props, and signage can work wonders connecting with those powerful holiday memories. And this festive feeling actually makes people enjoy shopping, instead of fretting; it sets the scene for making new memories with family – and making great meals, of course.
Cross Merchandise for Extra Sales
While you’re planning your displays, don’t forget to make extra room for holiday cross-merchandising. A smart practice any time of year, this is especially important during the holidays. Customers appreciate having the classic add-ons handy in one place, and will cheerfully buy those extra items. Baked goods, whipped toppings, salad ingredients, chocolate, champagne, snack cheeses and crackers, fancy forks and plates – all these can easily follow berries into the shopping basket.
By giving shoppers all the possible reasons they need to buy more berries, they will naturally do so. And by keeping good display management in mind, you’ll make the whole produce department appealing and fun to shop in.
