COLD CHAIN: A REFRESHING REFRESHER
Summer school has come early! Whether you’re a cold chain newbie or an expert looking for a quick refresher (seewhatIdidthere?), this post has everything you need to make sure your operation is following the protocols to keep Well•Pict Berries in optimal conditions. You are an all-important link in the cold chain. Without your partnership, the process collapses before the berries have a chance to make it to your shoppers in ideal condition. Maintaining the cold chain means the difference between a crisp, perfect (and perfectly ripe) gem of a berry and one that has begun to break down—making it a target for bruising and quickly ticking down the period of freshness.
So what exactly is the cold chain? It is the commitment to keep Well•Pict Berries at the precise temperature of thirty-three degrees farenheit. The “chain” starts in our state-of-the-art cooling facility, continues with the shipping professionals who transport our products, and ends in your cold storage. A lapse in the cold chain of even a single hour can cause the berries to begin to break down and increase the potential for accelerated spoilage. Well•Pict Berries strawberries and raspberries are treated like queens from baby blossom in the field to beautiful berry in the store, so as with every other aspect of their production, when it comes to the cold chain, Well•Pict isn’t messing around: temperature probes are placed in select pallets right in the field and checked and noted at the retailer’s delivery dock. Running these tests allows Well•Pict to maintain their commitment to customers to get the best and most beautiful berries on their table, and our commitment to you to ensure your berry sales are consistently blowing the roof off your stores!
