Onward Oxnard
Strategic use of multiple growing regions is one of the main practices that sets Well•Pict Berries apart. Well•Pict works with a sizable network of independent growers, and this allows for ongoing discussion around and development of the very best berry in all categories: flavor, taste, aroma, size, and color.
In the words of Well•Pict Berries Vice President of Sales Dan Crowley, Oxnard is currently “rocking and rolling.” The California coastal area, known for moderate, breezy temperatures and cool nights, makes for a prime growing region in these fall months—it’s one of the top reasons you are able to offer your shoppers superior berries even as the air begins to chill.
When the weather is warm, berry harvesting begins in Watsonville, California, and “migrates south for the winter” to Oxnard, before completing the cycle in Wimauma, Florida. Oxnard soil is notably fertile, and Well•Pict berries thrive there!
And Dan expects nothing less of this year, explaining that so far, “Fruit has outstanding flavor profile, great size, and full color.” He goes on to say, “The industry is receiving it very well.”
With this sunny (and cool…and breezy) outlook, a bountiful volume is expected to continue into November.
