Put some Spring in your Sales!
How to merchandise berries around spring holidays and events.
It’s already March and that means two things: 1) 2019 is moving too darn fast and 2) Spring will be here before we all know it. With the change of season comes longer days, more moderate temperatures, and plenty of opportunity for cross-merchandising and seasonal promotions. Well•Pict Berries are a versatile, year-round fruit, but there are plenty of tried-and-true ways to market them specifically during spring months. Here are some examples.
St. Patrick’s Day
Use Google or Pinterest to search for recipes using the holiday and seasonal ingredients you’d like to highlight. You’ll likely discover lots of great recipe ideas, ranging from classic favorites to unique, new flavor combinations. Our favorite search is simply: strawberries + whatever-holiday-you’re-looking-to-highlight, but you probably already knew that.
Consider setting out supplies for white-chocolate-dipped fruit with green food coloring, a simple but festive party snack that is customizable for multiple holidays. Again, strawberries are our favorite produce item to use here, but apples, bananas, oranges, grapes, and other fruit sales can also benefit from this easy cross-marketing trick. If you’d like to provide your customers with a great recipe for St. Patrick’s Day-themed chocolate dipped berries, here’s one of our favorites from blogger Vicky Barone.

Our Strawberry Pistachio Tarts with Gold Sugar Pearls are deceptively easy and cheap to make. Try putting out some samples, providing the recipe, and keeping pistachio pudding and tart shells nearby for shoppers to grab in one fell swoop. Remind customers that this fancy-seeming dish is simple enough to have their kiddos help create. Again, this is another recipe that has endless seasonal possibilities when you swap out the pudding flavor and pearl color.
Easter/Passover
Easter and Passover holidays are all about family-style celebrations. For these purposes, help your customers think of dishes they can create that will feed a lot of people, transport easily, or both. Again, we think samples are a great way to entice folks to buy multiple ingredients. If you make a great recipe in the store, try snapping some pictures for your social media platforms. You can get pictures of your employees making samples, of the finish product laid out on display, or of satisfied customers tasting whatever you put on for them to try. Make sure to tag the social media handles of the different products who contributed to the sample recipe, so you can get some likes and followers from their fans as well.
Some of our favorite Easter and Passover recipes include this Slablova from Cooking Light and this No Bake Bunny Cheesecake recipe from Living Locurto. There’s also these great little Easter baskets from A Taste of Madness, and (harkening back to the idea that chocolate-dipped fruit can be tailored for any festivity) these adorable Strawberry Bunnies from Crafty Morning.
