Well Nurtured, Well Tended, Well•Pict
It’s spring, the season we berry growers look forward to the most! We’re just coming out of a slow time for production due to our winter rainstorms (in January alone we had 5”) but the result of all of that extra fresh water is a crop of the biggest, juiciest, sweetest berries you’ve ever laid eyes on!
Strawberry sales have been climbing over the past three years and they’ve now taken the lead in the volume and value category of produce according to the California Strawberry Commission. In 1980, consumers were only eating an average of 2lbs of strawberries per year and now they’re so popular folks are eating closer to 8lbs a year. Our next six weeks are peak season, strawberries as far as the eye can see, but from now until the end of April our volume of promotable product is at it’s highest. Let’s give the people what they want!
We have an abundance of ripe, delicious berries heading out to stores this month, just in time for Easter, Earth Day and Mother’s Day! So instead of saving these gorgeous little gems as a garnish, encourage shoppers to go Berry Crazy!

Treat your customers to a taste bud experience by offering samples in your store! Two recipes that will be a sure hit is our Strawberry Soup and Strawberry Salsa. Our Strawberry Soup is like eating a bowl full of sunshine. It’s an unexpected, springy surprise to add to any celebration! The recipe calls for 1lb of strawberries but we highly recommend doubling the recipe- one bowl will NOT be enough. For anyone. The pretty pastel pink color ties in with an Easter motif and it’s easy enough for the kids to tackle- just toss the ingredients into a food processer for a few minutes and the work is done! A nice touch for Mother’s Day too!
This Strawberry Soup is simple enough to make as samples and we guarantee you, once your shoppers get a taste of this, the strawberries will fly right off from your shelves.
Our Strawberry Salsa just screams “Springtime”! Even the colors bring a smile to your face and it’s really easy to make this or a few friends or a big group of people. We don’t believe in “too much” when it comes to strawberries so encourage shoppers to buy them up and make up an extra batch. They will thank you for it.
Since this recipe is “no-bake”, all you need is a chef with rousing chopping skills to treat your shoppers to samples. And the colorful display is quite eye catching, customers will make their way over to see what you’re doing with strawberries, cilantro and tortilla chips!
